Bruce Niyonkuru was born in 1992 in Bujumbura, Burundi.

He came to Kigali, Rwanda with his family after the end of the genocide. He discovered his talent for painting at the age of eight. But parents and teachers tried to dissuade him first, with the argument “art worthless”.

In September 2016 the artist was invited by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany. In SWR2 he reports:
“We experience a lot of things here. We have several times live to music painted with musicians, we have at the Landesjazzfestival. We go to schools and paint with children. We exchange ideas with different artists. That gives us a boost.”
